Mental Health First Aid
Did you know that the Mental Health Commission of Canada reports that one in every five Canadians experiences a mental health problem within a given year?
While we often know a lot about physical illness, there tends to be less knowledge about mental health or substance use problems.
Through this course, participants will learn how to recognize signs that a person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis and encourage that person to:

-
Talk about declines in their mental well-being
-
Discuss professional and other supports that could help with recovery to improved mental well-being
-
Reach out to these supports
-
Assist in a mental health or substance use crisis
-
Use MHFA actions to maintain one’s own mental well-being
Helpers Need Help, Too
The desire to help others can be a wonderful motivating force for good in the world, but it can also be heavy, draining, and overwhelming. How do we know when we’ve lost ourselves in the work? How do we let go of the need to fix, save, and rescue others while still making a difference?
This interactive and engaging workshop is designed to assist helpers of all kinds (educators, support workers, emergency/crisis workers, frontline staff, and even parents) be able to effectively support others, while also finding balance, peace, and joy in their own lives.

Together we will explore how overidentification with our roles as helpers is often rooted in our own past traumas and how to begin untangling these past associations in the present. We will discover ways that connection, curiosity, and radical acceptance can help us step out of these patterns. This workshop will also include moments for thoughtful reflection and opportunities to practice the skills and concepts.
